Excerpt

“Are you ready for part two of this gift?” My tiger eyed me suspiciously. “And that would be—” “The fun part. You get to ride me.” Jen’s face lit up like a little kid about to go on one of those coin-operated mechanical horsey rides. Wasting no time, she tore off my boxers she had on and repositioned herself, straddling my lap with my cock impaled inside her. Gripping her hips, I bucked her hard as she rode me up and down. I hissed. Fuck, yeah! This was good. So fucking good and for both of us. Holding on to my shoulders, she got to control the pace while I got to go as deep and as hard as I could. I repeatedly hit her G-spot with each powerful thrust. She shrieked with pleasure each time I did. I gazed at her heated face. Her head arched back, she looked so impassioned, and I was mesmerized by the way the dangling earrings I’d just given her shook and shimmered. Quivering as if they were having little orgasms of their own. I was tempted to nibble her lobes but worried in my state of lust I might bite off an earring and swallow it whole. I gripped her hips tighter as she accelerated her pace. The friction and heat of her rubbing against my thick length felt so fucking amazing. “Do you like your present?” “Oh, God, yes!” she panted out. “I’m so close to coming!” “Good, baby,” I groaned. On the next deep thrust, she fell apart with a thunderous “Yes” and I could feel her throbbing all around my pulsing cock. Her body shook as I grunted out my own explosive climax and met hers full on. Spent and sweaty, we collapsed onto each other, her arms wrapping around me. We stayed in that position for several sweet minutes as we rode our orgasms out. Five minutes later, we were nestled side by side, her head resting on my chest. We were almost recovered. Now close to five, the sun had begun its disappearing act and cast a mellow amber glow. Jen traced lazy, ticklish circles on my chest. “Baby, I’ll never be able to top that birthday present.” I playfully flicked the tip of her cute upturned nose. “Don’t worry, you will.” “Do you have something in mind?” “Yeah, I do.” I was turning the big three-O. “How ‘bout a hint?” “I want to wake up to my wife.” I felt her jolt against me. “What are you saying, Blake?” “What I’m saying is that I want to marry you on the day before my birthday.” “December twentieth? Gosh, Blake. That’s only two months away.” “Jen, we’ve been engaged for over five months and it’s time to set a date. My mother has been driving me crazy.” Jen giggled. “Mine too. I keep telling her that we’ve just been too busy at work.” Which was true. Except I’d checked our calendars and had come to the conclusion that Saturday, the twentieth, would be a perfect time to get married. With Christmas around the corner, most of our SIN-TV productions would be shut down and our offices would be closed until January third—giving us an opportunity to go on a two-week honeymoon. I explained all this to Jen. She agreed. It made total sense. She rolled on top of me and gave me a hot spontaneous kiss. “Oh my God, Blake, we’re really going to get married!” The excitement in her voice was contagious. I smashed my lips against hers. “Yes, you’re going to become Mrs. Blake Burns, and tonight we’re going to break the news to our parents.” “My mother is going to be so excited!” Jen beamed. “She’s been planning our wedding forever.” I didn’t know if Jen could feel my heart skip a beat. I quietly gulped. And so had my mother. Instead of letting her know this, I urged her to take a shower with me and get ready for our dinner. The future Mrs. Blake Burns had another surprise in store.

My Review
*****Five Stars*****

Wanted By You is a really awesome debut novel for Steph Nuss.  This is one of those great, second chance at romance novels that was hard for me to put down!  Steph does do something I like in novels which is showing different points of view.  You get to read what is going through the minds of Carter and Ellyson.

Carter and Ellison were friends throughout the time they were in college in New York.  When they first met, they both had a mutual attraction to one another.  Even though the two had the same feelings for one another, they never pursued anything beyond friendship throughout the time they were in college.  After college, Carter returned back to Texas to help his father run his company.  After a few years, he moves back to New York. He lost touch with his friends, including Ellyson.

Even after all those years, Ellyson and Carter's feelings for one another never went away.  It was like no one could ever replace the other, even if they were to attempt to try.  I was so anxious for their reunion.  When it happened, just reading their reactions to seeing one another, you knew their love for one another is still there. This time around, they do act on their feelings, which made for some very, very hot scenes!  When they finally have sex, whoa!  They were releasing those bottled up feelings and finally letting them out!

Carter is the perfect guy for Ellyson.  Heck, he'd be perfect for anyone!  Carter is one of those guys any lady could take home to meet mom and dad.  He's hot, knows the right things to say and a gentleman (he's from Texas, southern gentleman!)  Even when Ellyson was feeling low, Carter was always there to pick her up.  He wasn't going anywhere no matter what was going on.

There are many things that are great about this novel.  I love the story line.  I love the characters.  Carter and Ellyson are such a good couple.  I love their friends!  Their friends are so freaking funny.  Steph has done a wonderful job with this novel and now I'm really looking forward to the next installment in this series!

My Review
*****Five Stars*****

I'm loving this series!  This is the second book in the Love In The City series.  You don't have to read the first book  to understand the second.  A lot of the characters that are in the first novel are also in the second novel.  This novel focuses on the Maverick and Harper.

When the two meet, it wasn't too pleasant the first minute.  Maverick, a gym owner, has a deep dislike for anyone associated with the fashion industry.  He blames the industry for the death of a friend (who happened to be friends with Harper) who was bulimic.  Harper wants to volunteer as a mentor in the counseling program that he has at his gym.  She also was bulimic, but sought treatment after the death of that friend. He recognized Jen Harper, the famous fashion designer.   What he didn't know is she is Harper, the sister of one of his friends, Carter.  Carter did mention to Maverick he planned to introduce the two to one another!

There is so much that happens in this novel.  I enjoyed seeing the love develop between Harper and Maverick.  Their love scenes are hot (chocolate syrup plays a part in one of the scenes!)  The two want the same things out of life: finding that one person you want to spend forever with and children in the future.  Also Maverick has to deal with Harper being in the public eye.  Some of the things that the paparazzi puts out there may put his trust in her to the test.  There is also a little bit of suspense with a stalker that Harper and a model/actor friend of hers Max have been dealing with for quite some time.  I love that they are part of this circle of friends and they seem to always have fun.  They are also like an extended family for one another and always there to support one another.

Just like the first novel, I enjoyed the second one just the same!  I was so hooked in reading this and it was hard to put down.  I'm really eager to read the next installment and I'm guessing it could be about Fletch??

REVIEW

*****Five Stars*****

Cassia Leo has done it again!  Chasing Abby is so beautiful and emotional, and just what followers of this series needed to conclude the Knight family's story.  Now since this is part of a series, you will need to read the other books in the Shattered Hearts series to understand what is going on in this novel.

I was annoyed with the how Abby's adoptive parents, Lynette and Brian Jensen, wanted to hide the identity of her birth parents from their daughter.  The Jensens also did not want her to follow their dreams, but wanted her to avoid the path her birth father has made with his life.  Chris and Claire wanted so much to be a part of her life, yet jealously gets the best of the Jensens and not realizing their daughter wants to know she came from.  Abby had the opportunity to do so when she turned eighteen, when she found out everything.

I love when the reunion took place.  Abby not only got to see her birth parents, but also meet her brothers and her sister, her grandmother and Tristan and Senia make an appearance!  Abby does get to see that her love for music does come from her father, Chris.  She does get along well with her brothers Junior and Ryder.  Her sister, Jimi, it wasn't so easy at the beginning, but things do work out later.

Caleb is such a sweetheart and someone Abby really needed for support and to look out for her.  He's so patient with her, not trying to pressure or rush her into anything.  Caleb does come with Abby when she decides to meet her parents.  What I found amusing is Chris Knight is an overprotective dad and I had to remember Chris and Claire are in their late thirties, not twenties!

Chasing Abby was so hard for me to put down.  Once I read it, I really got into it, not wanting to miss or wait to see what is going to happen in the following chapters.  I don't want to go on too much about what happened, because at that point, I will be revealing spoilers!  But I will say, again, it is a beautiful story, emotional and I do felt like my heart did get crushed!  I'm sad that this is the last of the Shattered Hearts series, but this was a great way to conclude it.

Thank you Cassia Leo for excellent work that you do!

EXCERPT

CHAPTER EIGHT

Abby

AMY RIDES HOME with Caleb and me after school. An April storm swooped in while we were in third period. The smell of the rain and the sound of the drops tapping on the vinyl convertible top is soothing after a long day of fake smiles. Amy and Caleb are the only people who know about the significance of today’s date. Everyone at school was wishing me a happy eighteenth birthday, completely oblivious as to how unhappy today actually is.
I haven’t told Caleb or Amy, but I’ve already made my decision about opening the safe-deposit box.
Caleb pulls into the driveway, next to my dad’s silver pickup truck, and turns off the engine. The silence that follows brings a smile to my face. They’re both waiting for direction from me.
“Let’s go. I’m sure my mom is pacing the living room, waiting for me to walk through the front door.”
Caleb laughs, but Amy shakes her head. Her wavy brown hair is damp at the ends from the rain and the light freckles on her nose are showing through her makeup, but she still looks great. My makeup is probably all gone.
“Is your mom going to freak out?”
I push the passenger door open and a few raindrops fall on my arm. “Amy, this is my mom. Of course she’s going to freak out… on the inside. On the outside, she’ll pretend like everything is okay.”
Caleb grabs my shoulder as we stroll up the front walk, then he gives it a soft squeeze. “Whatever you choose is the right choice. Don’t let anyone make you believe otherwise.”
I smile and, for some reason, the $4,000 guitar lying in his trunk comes to mind. Of course Caleb thinks that whatever I choose is the right choice. He thinks I’m so special I actually deserve a $4,000 guitar. I could probably run away tonight and Caleb would tell me I made the right choice. Of course, if I ran away tonight I’d probably end up spending the night with Caleb at the apartment he shares with his twenty-three-year-old roommate. So that’s a bit obvious.
“Is your dad supposed to be home right now?” Amy asks as I reach for the doorknob.
“No, he probably left work early. It’s a big day for them, too.” Pushing open the front door, I’m a bit surprised to find my dad standing in the foyer, as if he were waiting for me. “Hey, Dad.”
He clears his throat and smiles. “I know I wished you a happy birthday this morning, but I’m going to do it again.” He extends his right hand forward and I see the gold key lying flat in his palm. “Happy birthday, sweetheart. This is yours now.”
I draw in a few deep breaths, then I reach forward and take the key from his hand. I curl my fist around the sharp metal, squeezing as it digs into the soft flesh of my palm. Looking up into my father’s blue eyes, the barely disguised grimace crinkling the skin around the corners, I tuck the key into the front pocket of my jeans.
“I’m not going today,” I say, smiling so he doesn’t think this was a difficult decision to make. “I don’t know if I ever will, but thank you for trusting me to make the decision on my own. I love you, Dad.”
I wrap my arms around his thick waist and he squeezes my shoulders so tight it hurts. “I’ve always trusted you, sweetheart. I know you’ll make the right decision for you.”
“What’s going on?”
My mom’s voice is soft and laced with worry, but it still grates on my nerves. I love my mom, but her inability to trust that I would make the right decision has broken something between us. I don’t know if I’ll ever hear her speak and hear the same voice that sang me to sleep every night until I was eight years old.
“I’m not going,” I say, letting go of my dad.
Her eyebrows knit together, but there’s a spark of hope in her eyes and a slight curl to her lips. “Why not?”
I blink a few times to hold back the tears. “Because I’m afraid of hurting you.”
“What? That’s silly.”
“No, it’s not. I can see how much you want me to leave that part of me in the past. Even if you don’t say it, I can see it in your eyes.”
“I’m sorry, Abby. I just—”
“No, you don’t have to explain, Mom. I understand.” I sniff loudly as I wipe the tears from my face. “You don’t want to lose me. And I’m lucky to have you. I know that… I don’t want to lose you either.”
She shakes her head and takes my face in her hands. “Oh, honey. You’re not going to lose me. You’ll never lose me.” She kisses my forehead and tucks my hair behind my ear. “Yes, I’m afraid of what this will do to our family going forward, but it’s natural. We fought so hard for you, Abby. I just want to protect you. I want to protect this family.”
“From what?”
She presses her lips together as she considers this question. “I don’t know. But please don’t let my fear influence you. This is your decision, honey. Your father and I will support you no matter what you choose to do.”
I nod and she takes me into her arms. I allow myself to cry on her shoulder for a moment, before I excuse myself to my bedroom with Caleb and Amy. Closing the door behind us, I immediately take a seat on my bed while Amy sits at my desk and Caleb sits next to me.
“She’s hiding something from me,” I say as Caleb grabs my hand.
“Our parents probably hide more things from us than we do from them,” Amy replies, opening up my laptop. “Do you want me to respond to all your birthday greetings on Facebook?”
“Yes, please.”
“Not the ones from guys,” Caleb adds, and I shove him. “Are you sure you don’t want to see what’s inside that box?”
I nod quickly. “I’m not ready. I’m actually glad my mom made me wait. I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to face the people who gave me away.”
“What if they had no choice?” Amy says.
“No choice? In what kind of world would they have no choice? Of course they had a choice. Maybe it was a difficult one, but it was still the choice they made. Why do I even want to meet someone who didn’t want me? My parents want me. They’ve always wanted me and now I’m going to risk hurting them just to satisfy my curiosity? It doesn’t make sense.”
“You’ll know when you’re ready,” Amy says, an automatic response as she scrolls through my Facebook profile and responds to hundreds of birthday wishes.
“That’s bullshit.”
I look up at Caleb and he’s staring straight at me. “What?”
“That’s bullshit,” he repeats. “You’re not going to hurt your parents. And you know that.”
I try to let go of his hand, but he tightens his grip. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I know better than you do. I had a mother who didn’t want me. Really didn’t want me. But you… you don’t know what your birth parents felt about you and I think that’s what scares you the most. Not knowing.”
The soft tapping of Amy’s fingers on the keyboard of my laptop stops. I bite my lip as I try to deny that what Caleb just said is true, but I can’t. He’s right. I’m not afraid of hurting my parents. I’m afraid of hurting me.
